America's Promise
America's Promise to Our Youth Gala
In an effort to increase attention towards our nation’s
most precious resource – our children – America’s
Promise launched the Promise of America’s Youth Campaign,
culminating with the America’s Promise to Our Youth Gala,
an inspirational message-based event chaired by Mrs. Colin Powell
involving breathtaking stage design, major entertainment celebrities
Naomi Judd and Clay Aiken, and showcased exceptional, locally
based youth performing talent from the famed Duke Ellington School
of the Arts.
The Campaign and related events, which included a kickoff “Issues
Forum” event featuring leaders in children’s issues
and a keynoter speech given by Secretary of State Colin Powell
as well as a dinner for committee members and major supporters
at the White House on May 13, 2004, were the result of a major
effort by H&A, who provided comprehensive fundraising, event
design and logistical support. H&A also spearheaded the major
media campaign, investigating and compiling lists of all major
and issue-specific electronic and print media outlets, as well
as pitching related human interest and hard news stories.
The gala was a huge success, drawing such high-level participants
as Alaska Senator Ted Stevens, Secretary
of State Colin Powell, White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card
and former First Lady and current New York Senator Hillary Rodham
Clinton.
