Restore America: A Salute to Preservation
For the past three years, The National Trust for Historic Preservation,
Save America's Treasures, and Home & Garden Television have
sought help from H&A to develop a signature event to raise
the profile of historic preservation worldwide. Since then, the
effort has raised more than $2 million dollars and has culminated
each year with a made-for-TV black tie awards gala held in Washington,
DC..
The star-studded Restore America Honors features the Restore
America Hero Award, which honors public officials, private citizens
and corporations whose energy, vision and leadership have made
significant contributions to the preservation of America's historic
and cultural legacy.
The Restore America Hero Award has been presented to individuals
such as Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton,
Congressman Ralph Regula, actress Diane Keaton, musician Don
Henley and other leading champions
of historic preservation. Celebrity presenters have included
actor Sam Waterston, Sam and Jan Donaldson,
Dorothy Hamill and Susan Eisenhower. Recording artists Jo Dee
Messina, Mary McBride and Jim Brickman have all performed to entertain guests and support
the NTHP cause.
With the assistance of prominent Co-Chairs such as Linda
Daschle and Karyn Frist, Connie Harriman-Whitfield and Betty
Ann Tanner,
H&A has built a benefit committee, positioning the Trust
to build relationships with and receiving donations from numerous
corporations that had never been previously involved with the
organization.
Restore America: A Salute to Preservation is a public affairs
initiative created to raise awareness and generate support for
saving America's most beloved and historic places. Inspired by
the popular HGTV series “Restore America”, the initiative
recognizes the restoration efforts of 12 national sites each
year through the network's on-air and online programming.
