Red Cross 125th Anniversary
In conjunction with the 2006 American Red Cross National Convention
and Capitol Hill Day, the Red Cross 125th Anniversary Gala was
held on Thursday, May 11, 2006 at the National Building Museum
in Washington, DC. In addition to commemorating the rich history
of the Red Cross, this momentous black-tie celebration provided
the organization with the opportunity to honor individuals, corporations
and celebrities who have dedicated themselves to supporting and
making vital contributions to the Red Cross mission.
Hosted by Emmy and Golden Globe winning actor Jimmy
Smits with
featured appearances by actress Jane Seymour and recording artist Fantasia, the Gala drew nearly 1,300 Governors, Members of Congress,
Corporate Executives, Philanthropists, Washington dignitaries,
and Red Cross leaders and friends to celebrate one and a quarter
centuries of dedication and service.
H&A was integral in coordinating the massive logistical
effort, including writing and mailing letters of invitation,
placing personalized follow-up calls, arranging for all catering,
audio-visual and equipment needs, recruiting VIP participants
and directing the program the day of the event. H&A also
provided media relations support, drafting materials, placing
pitch calls and staffing the media during the event, which generated
coverage by People Magazine, Reuters, MTV.com and numerous local
outlets
In addition, H&A provided comprehensive fund raising services,
recommending a committee structure and recruiting committee members,
which led to more than more than $2 million for the event while
creating new partnerships for The American Red Cross programs.
