Griffin Hand, Senior Advisor for Philanthropic
Programs
Katie Griffin Hand offers an entrepreneurial, dynamic and
collaborative approach to non-profit philanthropy and management,
grounded in a proven track record of framing solutions for
success. She leverages more than 20 years of experience in
strategic planning, fundraising outreach, board development,
integrated marketing communications and special events management
to support the advancement of non-profits – locally,
nationally and internationally.
Most recently as Vice President
of Development for the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation
from October 2006 through June 2009, Katie played a leadership
role in launching a $50,000,000 capital campaign – achieving an average increase in annual
revenue of 40 percent – with more than $19,000,000 in
net campaign funds and more than $40,000,000 in comprehensive
funds raised. She worked with leadership to strengthen the
focus and impact of the development program, build a professional
staff, and lead the formation of a Campaign Cabinet. Katie
successfully solicited principal gifts of $100,000 and above – including
four 7-figure gifts for which she was directly responsible – from
board members, business and philanthropic leaders, and the
corporate and foundation realms.
Prior to this, Katie’s experience includes establishing
a development program for the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation
Partnership, where she was hired as the first Development Director
and elevated to Vice President of Development, working extensively
with the institutional foundation community to empower America’s
40 million hunters and anglers to participate in the national
environmental debate.
Katie also served as the Vice President
of Development for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund from
1997 through 2001, where she directed fundraising, marketing,
board development and programmatic initiatives to include the
funding and launch of Project RENEW, which remains the leading
landmine eradication program in Southeast Asia. Her efforts
resulted in cash and in-kind contributions of more than $8,500,000.
Katie’s experience also includes seven years in development
at Georgetown University and Georgetown University Law Center,
where she served as Director of Special Events for the Law
Center’s capital campaign and year-long 125th anniversary
commemoration.
Throughout her career, Katie also has provided
a range of consulting services to non-profit organizations,
including: Autism Society of America, Global Community Service
Foundation, Poverty Mitigation in Southeast Asia, International
Foundation for Election Systems, National Catholic Partnership
on Disabilities, National Christ Child Society, and Vital Ground
Foundation. Katie has worked as a consultant for H&A since
June of 2009, serving clients such as Paralyzed Veterans of
America and TAPS.
Ms. Griffin Hand has a B.A. in Economics from
Denison University.
