Laura Barnes, Development Officer

A native of Annapolis, Maryland, Laura Barnes graduated with honors from American University with a concentration in Public Communications and Health Promotion. While at American, she was a member of the women’s lacrosse team where she earned All-Patriot League honors for both lacrosse and academics.

Laura comes to Hayes from the United States Naval Academy Foundation, where she gained valuable experience in all aspects of development while working with the Offices of Major Gifts and Corporate and Foundation Relations. As a coordinator in the Office of Corporate & Foundation Relations, Laura supported the Director in prospect identification, grant writing, gift administration, and stewardship for all corporate and foundation gifts, and corporate matching gifts. In addition to her fundraising duties, she was the point of contact for the Naval Academy Alumni Association's Corporate Member program. In that role she was primarily involved in the recruitment and retention of new and current corporate members and the solicitation of sponsorships for Alumni Association events.

In her spare time, Laura enjoys reading, running, and spending time with friends and family. Her favorite off-the-clock activity is coaching with Future Elite, a non-profit club lacrosse program for high school girls in the Northern Virginia area.
